Our dentist may recommend replacing your missing teeth with a dental bridge. Bridges are designed to replace individual teeth or several teeth in a row, closing the gap caused by the missing teeth to restore your smile as well as your ability to chew and speak normally. Bridges consist of one or more prosthetic teeth anchored in place through the use of two dental crowns, one on either side of the prosthetic tooth or teeth. These crowns hold the artificial tooth in place to help ensure that it will not shift or come loose. Your bridge may also be anchored by a dental implant rather than by crowns.

Dental bridges offer several benefits, including:

  • Restoring Functionality: Missing teeth can make everyday tasks like speaking and eating challenging. A bridge can restore your ability to perform these actions comfortably and effectively.
  • Maintaining Facial Structure: Tooth loss can lead to changes in the shape of your face. Bridges help maintain the shape and volume of your face by preventing the surrounding teeth from shifting.
  • Preventing Tooth Movement: When a tooth is lost, the adjacent teeth can shift into the gap, leading to misalignment and bite problems. Bridges keep your remaining teeth in their proper positions.
  • Enhancing Aesthetics: A dental bridge fills the gap left by missing teeth, giving you a complete and attractive smile. This can boost your confidence and improve your overall appearance.

When you receive a dental bridge, plan on at least two appointments with our dentist. During the first visit, we will take impressions and prepare your teeth to receive the bridge. This may involve reshaping the adjacent teeth to fit the crowns that will support the bridge. After your bridge has been created, you will return to our office for the second visit, where our dentist will check that it fits properly and make any necessary adjustments before permanently bonding it into place.

Once in place, your bridge will last for many years as you continue to practice good oral hygiene at home and visit our dentist regularly to receive cleanings and exams.
